In Karachi, Pakistan, an elderly man named Abdul Sattar Edhi runs a safe house for orphaned and abandoned children. Filmmakers Omar Mullick and Bassam Tariq spent three years shooting "These Birds Walk," which judging from the trailer below, features stunning cinematography to tell the moving story of a troubled country's lost children.

From the synopsis: Omar is a young runaway boy in Karachi, Pakistan, whose life hangs on one critical question: what is home going to mean for him? Is it going to be in the urban streets where he has made his life, an unstructured home for runaways, or the difficult rural family life he has been trying to flee? And might Omar find an answer in the hardened young man Asad, himself a former street kid and now an ambulance driver for the humanitarian Edhi Foundation who helps the children at Omar's orphanage return to their homes, often in dangerous territory and at great personal risk? A glancing, non-hagiographic examination of the work being done by humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi, often called "the Mother Teresa of Pakistan" (seen fleetingly throughout the movie), "These Birds Walk" is both heart-wrenching and life-affirming, documenting the struggles of these wayward street children and the samaritans looking out for them in an ethereal, poetic story of resilience.

Lahore:
Legendary folk singer Reshma,  who was suffering from throat cancer for a long time, passed away in Lahore on Sunday, (November 3, 2013) Express News reported. انا لله وانا اليه راجعون

Reshma was one of the most popular folk singers of Pakistan, appearing on television in the 1960s and recording songs for both the Pakistani as well as the Indian film industry.

In her career, Reshma gave some of the finest and most powerful hits to the music industry. With tracks like Lambi Judai, Ankhiyan Nu Rehn De and Hayyo Rabba , she still remains in the hearts of millions of fans worldwide.

Born in Bikaner in India’s Rajasthan state to a Banjara family around 1947, her tribe had migrated to Karachi shortly after partition.

When she was just 12, a television and radio producer spotted her singing at Shahbaz Qalander’s shrine. The producer arranged for her to record “Laal Meri” on Pakistan radio. She became an instant hit.
Some of her songs include Dama Dam Mast Kalandar, Hai O Rabba nahion lagda dil mera, Sun charkhe di mithi mithi cook mahiya meinu yaad aunda, Wey main chori chori, Ankhiyan no rehen de ankhyan de kol kol and Lambi Judai.
According to initial details, her funeral prayers will be held today.

Many – saddened by her death – tweeted and paid tribute to the musical genius.

Sandaraa is a new band from Lahore, Pakistan and Brooklyn, New York. The group is fronted by vocalist Zeb Bangash (Zeb and Haniya) and features Brooklyn musicians Michael Winograd on clarinet, Eylem Basaldi on violin, Patrick Farrell on accordion, Yoshie Fruchter on guitar, Benjy Fox-Rosen on bass and drummer Richie Barshay. Sandaraa explores a vast repertoire of South Asian material (from Balochistan, Afghanistan and beyond,) while blending it with the sounds of Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and more. The group was founded in the fall of 2013, with the help of the Center for Traditional Music and Dance, and the MAP fund.

[Pakistan, Wednesday, 6th November’13]:
The Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs of North America (OPEN) is holding their annual conference called Changing the Game, in Washington DC on 9th November’13 and Pakistan’s very own lead singer, drummer and co-founder of Overload, Farhad Humayun will be speaking at this forum alongside other big names such as, Imran Khan and Tehreema Mitha. Farhad Humayun has already reached New York and will be speaking to the audience in an interactive segment titled “Between ROCK and a Hard Place.” His talk will take place in the afternoon segment of the conference and will be following Imran Khan’s session on “The Leadership Ingredients.”

In speaking about how he feels about being a part of such a big forum and what he hopes to impress upon the audience Farhad says: “They’ve asked me to talk about musical entrepreneurship in Pakistan. I am going to talk about my life growing up as a musician & an artist & how I’ve managed a successful career living in Pakistan and why the world should look at The Other Side/The progressive & Creative Side of Pakistan that the foreign media doesn’t show on TV.”
OPEN was formed in 1998 by Pakistani American entrepreneurs wanting to provide other Pakistani Americans assistance and opportunities for growth. OPEN has chapters in New England, Silicon Valley, New York, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta and Washington DC with their first ever international chapter in Karachi, Pakistan.
